Course Description: |
|
This course is to train and certify individuals in the occupational
health & safety fields to conduct occupational audiometric screening
tests (hearing tests) and to work in industrial hearing conservation
programs per federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
regulations. |

Design: |
This course is designed for health & safety personnel responsible for/or
working in industrial hearing conservation programs. The participant
will receive practical knowledge in hearing conservation and training in
the use of audiometric equipment currently found in the occupational
medical field.
A written and practicum examination will be given. Upon successful
completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of
completion. This certification is valid for 5 years. |

- Hearing conservation in noise.
- Anatomy, physiology, diseases of the ear, and otoscopic
screening.
- Hearing and the physics of sound.
- Federal and state regulations relating to noise and hearing
loss.
- The audiometer and test environment.
- Audiometer calibration.
- Audiometric techniques.
- Supervised audiometric evaluations.
- Review of audiometric evaluation.
- Audiogram review, referral, and employee follow-up.

Course Director: |
|
Dr. Dana Oviatt is a graduate of Boston University (M.S.) and the
University of Wisconsin at Madison (Ph.D.) in Audiology. He has
practiced Audiology since 1977 as clinician, researcher and teacher. Dr.
Oviatt has served as a clinician performing diagnostic auditory and
vestibular evaluations, as well as aural rehabilitation, at Glenrose
Hospital for Children, University of Michigan Hospitals and hospitals in
Boston. Dr. Oviatt was an adjunct professor of audiology at Syracuse
University. He has presented and published numerous research
investigations on topics such as binaural amplification for the hearing
impaired, cochlear implants, and the effect of the middle ear on
noise-induced hearing loss. Dr. Oviatt is a CAOHC-Certified course
director. Dr. Oviatt is licensed by the State of New York and certified
by the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association. |

Registration: |

Tuition must be received two weeks prior to the course date. Since
expenses are fixed, refunds cannot be given unless written cancellation
is received two weeks prior to the course. The fee is also transferable
to a subsequent course within a six month period. The fee includes lunch
and beverages at breaks.
